WIFI
The goal of this contest will be to achieve the greatest connect
distance between two 802.11b stations through innovative engineering
and antenna design.
HOW WIFI WORKS
An Access Point (AP) is a wireless-enabled device that broadcasts a
wireless signal. Any other wireless-enabled device can receive an
AP's signal and can transmit data to it once a connection has been
established. That connection stays established if the wireless signals
are in a specific range.
For the Wifi Contest, the PAKCON Wifi staff will have an AP present
at the Wifi contest location and will be broadcasting signals all the
time. Teams will have to achieve the maximum connect distance with the
WIfi Contest AP. Teams will have to bring their own wireless-enabled
equipments. The equipments can be anything from a laptop, PDA to a
WAP-enabled mobile phone, antennas to dishes. They will be free to
make any modifications and extensions to their equipments to boost
their equipments' wireless signals.
HOW TO WIN THE WIFI CONTEST
A total of six (6) teams will participate in the Wifi Contest.
Each team can have no more than four (4) members. Teams can select
any individual to be their member.
In a fixed time slot of either 30 minutes or 60 minutes, teams will
have to establish the maximum connect distance between PAKCON Wifi
Contest AP and their wireless device. At the end of the allotted
time slot, the team with the greatest connect distance will win the
contest.
RESTRICTIONS
There are apparently no restrictions as to what piece of equipment
teams can use. Teams are free to choose whichever equipment for
boosting their wireless signals.
REGISTRATION
Like every other contest to be held at PAKCON II, registration
for the Wifi Contest is on a first come first serve basis. Only
six (6) teams will be selected and allowed to participate in the
Wifi Contest. The teams can have anyone as their member, but the
total number of members in each time will not be more than four (4).
